    Default Hardy Dam Road Closure

I was actually amazed that it took this long.

Until further notice, the road that goes overtop of Hardy dam is closed. Officials noticed that the embankment is listing. There is zero threat of a breach.

Road Over Hardy Dam Closed Until Further Notice - 9 & 10 News

I will say that I am very surprised that it took this long. The majority of dams in Michigan have been closed to traffic for more than 35 years.

The first time I drove over it more than 6 years ago, my first thought was "How is this still open"? Part of my job involves security threats of over 36 site locations within Michigan. My mind works a little different because it has to.

I'm not saying that this is going to happen but, now would be the perfect time for them (Consumers energy) to shut this travel route down for good.

I heard that on the news this morning, couldn't agree more on such needed repair

Always imaged what damage it would cause if that dam blew out

Wow, thanks for the photo Gary.

I'm just surprised that with the threat condition we have today in regards to National Security that they would continue to keep this route open. I know it would be a tough one to close and explain to people how they now have to drive way out of the way but, one could also see where "anyone" has access to that dam. Which is a scary situation

I've been fishing down below Hardy a couple of times, that spillway system is crazy. Low spot in the road with a break away barrier and the spillway just ends at a drop off into the woods.

I tried floating crawlers and minnows under slip bobbers below the power house but never got a bite.

There was a nice eddy below the power house and it looked like something should be hiding there, I used slip bobbers and worked the bait right into the eddy but got nothing. It's a pretty good walk to get down there and twice as long to get back up.
