Just saw that Remington, America’s oldest Weapons manufacturer, has filed for bankruptcy.

Water temp was 39, no warmer water anywhere. Marked fish suspended 10-15 feet down over 25 fow and put minnows and red worms in front of them with no luck. Nothing in the shallows. We did do a lot of scouting and at noon pulled up to the dock at an on water bar, went in to warm up and had a awesome mushroom swiss burger.

I was thinking of going to south Indiana to fish but I couldn't get the snow blower in the boat to clean out the launch. Hoping to get to Michigan before my out of state license runs out.

Gonna be a while. I see next weeks forecast is for highs in the mid 30's. Temp was 25 when we launched and Steve as grumpy because he had a frozen pee hole. Things like that tend to make me grumpy, too.

That Mushroom Swiss burger made the trip worth it!

Day did not start well, got to the launch and the dock wasn’t in, which is no biggie, just a little inconvenient. Then the peehole was frozen from the trip down.....it eventually thawed but another annoyance. Fishing line somehow got wrapped into the swim platform which putting your bare hand/arm into 37 degree water is not appealing.

Seems like once we had the motor thawed out the day got better. No fish, but a good day on the water with Jerry.

You didn't use my trick to thaw the hole? You remember. I think I had to go dumpster diving to get a piece of wire off from the back seat of an 87 Astro van. Heat, insert, repeat!

When fishing in cold conditions, as soon as you get back to the launch and pull the boat out, lower the motor all the way down. Unscrew the flush plug. The location where you hook a garden hose to your motor. This will relieve back pressure and allow all of the remaining water above the waterpump to purge out of the hole. You could also blow in the flush plug to purge the water faster. I've been meaning to produce something that screws in to the plug and connects to a can of "canned air" but have yet to do so. I look like a fool at the launch but I don't get freeze up anymore. I'll bet that water was in there from the last time you went!

Boy am I glad that I didn't fish the first round of the MWC event in Spring Valleye Ill. Temps in the 20's, wind gusts to 30, and snow all day. Oh wait, I have tournament fished in weather like that!

    Rich,

I was all set to show them FIB's how it's done. I was a shoe in for the Championship that day, but I couldn't lift my Becky Heavy Garage door to make it, so had to forfeit.

In other news, all the damn EZ-Set Door springs are Special Order, and, one gut said they are being phased out, that is why they are mostly special order. Had another place offer to convert to standard torsion springs, for the same price as the 2 EZ-Sets.

Mulling that over in my head now, as I type.

That particular day above started out the night before:

Kevin and I finished up the Captains meeting around 7pm and made a beline for my house. The original plan was to leave early but stay at my house to avoid the cost of a hotel (stupid move).

We got back to my house on Friday, pulled my boat in the barn and then put Kevin's boat in the barn (smart move). By the time we got Kevin's boat in the barn (10:30pm) it had snowed 7 inches.
We were in bed by 11:30 and figured we needed to be up and on the road by 2:30 in case of bad weather. We left my house at 2:15 with just over 14 inches of fresh snow. I drove in 4x4 on roads that had not seen a plow. By the time we got to Chelsea off from I-94, it looked like you cut the weather with a knife. No snow on the ground, nothing. We made it to the launch and everyone was asking where all the snow came from? We told them (warned them) it was coming.

The above photos were on day one of a tournament 2 years ago. At times it snowed so heavy that you couldn't see a boat 100ft away. There was 2-4 inches of snow in our boat. We did manage a limit of fish and were actually not far in terms of weight from the top 15. Day two would be ten times worse when we took two waves over the bow of Kevin's boat that washed the entire deck and allowed the bilge to run for more than 10 minutes at a wack. Did we find fish that day? We were lucky to make it back.

Wind straight out of the south, 4 foot waves blowing up the river, tempurature in the 20's, windshield frozen solid.
