I have a couple top loin white bass fillets I plan on frying tonight.....I’ll give it a try!
Can’t be worse than woodchuck stew or possum pie Tim keeps trying to get me to eat.

Besides, I am pretty sure it has to taste better than the crow I’ve had to eat.....

    Walleye-White Bass
    Catch-Clean-Cook

I’ll start this by saying I had a pre conceived idea that white bass are junk fish and not any good to eat.

Years ago I learned a hard lesson on never judging someone from how they look or what someone says about them......I guess it carries over to fish as well.

We caught Walleye and White bass on our recent trip, Jerry said he was going to keep some bass to eat.....I figured I’d try one so......

Both specie were caught the same day same body of water.
Walleye were cleaned same as always and zippered.
White bass were filleted same as any panfish, BUT we removed the mud line by zippering them too and then lightly skinning the red meat off the side next to where the skin was, having just a white only fillet. I only kept the top loins, wasn’t much left of the bottoms.

Made my dry batter using flour, yellow corn meal, bone sucker seasoning and black pepper. Deep fried till golden.

I swear Judy and I both thought the white bass was very good! I gave the edge to the Walleye because the meat seemed tighter but taste wise I would rate it right up there with any other panfish.

Moral of the story, I won’t snub my nose at them again.....in fact I’d keep a couple in the livewell when the opportunity comes along again.

I'm glad you gave them a fair shake. Now, when are we going after more?

The key is that you guys lightly filleted the dark meat off them! If, and I say if you leave some on, you will know it! Not many other fish out there that skin like that. Salmon has a similar gray that can impact the flavor but nowhere near the white bass.

Ice finally left Garden Bay last Sunday and the perch are in!

Another year that I wanted to go, but it’s not gonna happen for me.

Like I always say.......maybe next year!

Jimmy, isn't it funny how that works as we get older?

Used to be, you go to a lake and do your best to catch a full stringer or your limit to bring home. Later in life, you catch some fish and then throw them back because "we are just too lazy" to clean them. Thank god for livewells!

Another favorite of mine is when I put the boat away in the barn and walk to the house while saying "Glad I don't have to clean fish tonight"!

Having a cup of coffee with a bagel and mayhaw jelly. Thanks Jeff for the jelly!

Farmer came in last night and chisel plowed my 30 acres, ready to plant to corn on it now.

Finished installing kitchen cabinets yesterday, I’ll put in the countertop when it comes in, so.....no work today, rain and winds predicted so no fishing either.

Might be a good day for a afternoon nap.....
