Default Yesterdays Wixom Lk action. pics

Well I could not have asked for a better day to be on Wixom in my kayak than yesterday. The only down side was that I forgot my tripod and extra batteries for the camera so I was not able to film as I had hoped. I planned on fishing until sunset, but to be honest with you I had had enough by 3:00pm. On water at 7:30am, 34 degrees fish hitting immediately. 6 feet of water, fish down 3 feet , orange 1/64 jig tipped with eagle claw crappie bait. 11:00am, 55 degrees, fish now 6 inches from the surface, same bait. Move to open water. Breakline from 4 feet into 14 feet. Fish suspended over the deeper water but at 4 feet adjacent to the top of the break. Slow realing a 1/32 oz pink jig with a chartreuse Berkley power nymph. The morning fishing was fast with a lot of dinks, some good gills and a few nice slabs. When I moved to the breakline it was shear madness. Pretty much every cast brought a slab, 10 - 14 incher, to the kayak. A total of 33 from that spot. 14 slabs from canals. 6 under one dock. I released the majority, kept a few for with some gills for the fryer and pics. I think for those of you who are attending the outing we are going to hit them hard. If the weather holds we should all bring a bunch of specks to the dock.

In June at your campsite, hopefully. Fishing has been good there this spring Bob so a fish fry should be no problem. I have about 10 pounds of fillets already, so we can always dig into mine if things do not go so well while you are up.

Only kept a couple for the pan. Left the rest for outing weekend. Crazy thing is those fish I was catching on the breakline in the lake will probably be in one of the channels by the weekend of the outing. If so they should be even easier for all of us to catch. I will be keeping a close eye on their movement over the next 2 weeks.

i am working in essexville so should be here a while. When is the outing? WE went about 6pm. Fished deep and shallow only caught 2; however it was a great evening- the smallmouth were absolutley killing the jiffy jig. if i was out fishing for bass it would have been the opposite. that north wind was tough on the hands, my father in law came up from tn today so he left 82 yesterday to 42 today!! probably headed to the bay tomorrow. both fish were in about 3ft. temps were 57-60. First time to Wixom and def. look forward to getting back.
