Default New Valvoline Restore & Protect Engine Oil

I don't know how many of you own automobiles with 100,000 miles or more one them but I have several. I had been following this oil's development for quite some time. The first mixes (not released) worked so well the oil filters were getting plugged. Since it has been out a little while and no adverse information has surfaced I decided to start using it in my high mileage vehicles. It is supposed to remove most of the varnish by the time 4 oil changes have been consumed. I have parts on each auto that will be monitored for progress. The 5.4 3 Valve engine in my Fishin' Expedition is a Lemon engine Ford made for about 3-4 years. If you know how to take care of them it is one of the best Torque/CID ratio gas engines around. Low oil pressure caused by poor quality oil pump design exacerbated by the oil routing causing the Passenger Side Head and more importantly OHV train to be starved for oil causing Valves to be broken and drop into the cylinders dynamiting the Block. I replaced the entire group of timing / valve related parts with OEM parts when I first brought the Expedition home. I also replaced the oil pump with a Melling High Volume unit.

I've switched all the oil filters to HP Synthetic Media filters buying several extra that I plan on changing at 1000 mile intervals for the first 3000 miles. If it works or makes me put my mechanic hat on to do repairs I will post back on this thread.

I bought a new 2005 F150 4x4 in Jan 2006. It has the 5.4 3 valve engine that has the spark plugs issues and the cam phaser issues. I only used motor craft 5-20 synthetic blend oil in it. I got 225000 miles on engine before the cam phasers rattled enough to set off the knock sensors. I replaced the engine with a long block 3 years ago along with the original transmission that also had 225000 miles on it.. transmission seemed to be working well but I thought I should have it rebuilt due to the milage. I also had the Air Cond, radiator, belts, water pump and other parts replaced. I always serviced the truck with the correct oils, filters and fluids..and my Ford mechanic buddy could not believe I got more than 80000 miles out of the transmission. I'm not sure about the oil you are asking about. I have had good luck with the Motor craft 5-20 blend and motor craft filters. The 2005 F150 has zero rust but I had to replace the driver seat bottom leather and foam. I do add seafoam or Lucas treatment to the fuel twice a year. On the old engine we replaced the spark plugs at 90000 miles and all 8 came out unbroken. My Ford mech buddy said he had done at least 100 5.4 plug replacements..he said mine came out easy and clean.. I told him I put 4 cans of seafoam in 5 gallons of gasoline and ran it till near empty...then 1 gallon of Lucas on 10 gallons of gas, ran it till almost empty.. then he changed the plugs.. did the same thing at 175000 miles, again no broken spark plugs, plugs were clean. I hope your 5.4 3 valve is a good one. My remanufactured engine has the upgraded oil pump and cam phasers..I hope it lasts as long as the original engine.

I bought mine, well actually I rebuilt a 24ft CC boat trailer for mine. It was parked under a tree for 2 years with a Ford remanufactured engine already in it with 79K miles on the replacement engine. The owners thought the phasers/valve train took a dump like the first engine and parked it. One Rocker Arm was rattling pretty good. Total miles on the chassis was 179K. I have put another almost 40K on it since tearing the engine down and replacing every valve/timing component. One camshaft was damaged from a rocker loosing needle bearings and riding off to the side of the cam lobe. Ford over bores their reman heads and installs oversized cams which replacements can not be bought by a consumer as far as I can tell. I dressed the lobe up, reinstalled the cam, and have put the 40K miles on it without a problem so far. 2 of the spark plugs broke off when I changed them. I bought the tool to remove the broken ones and extracted those without a hitch. Now I will be fixing the valve covers soon as they are leaking and will do the plugs again then. Kroll Oil will be shot in on all 8 and left for a couple of days before attempting to remove the plugs. Ford only did the 5W-20 oil to meet target fuel economy numbers since the 5.4 3V engine likes gasoline a lot. There is a TSB about switching to 5W-30 out there, I can't find the number for it right now. I'm confident the proper maintenance was not done on mine before I got it. Turns out the reason it was knocking so bad was the Ignition Coils were toast. The original owners thought it needed another engine and parked it.

My previous truck was a 1996 Chevy 4x4 Z71 with the 350 Vortec. At 40000 miles the intake gasket failed. At 145000 it failed again... I sold the truck with 208000 miles on it. That guy gave it to his 16 year old son who drove it hard... A year later he thought the engine blew..he sold the truck for $900.. he did not know it was just the intake gasket again. The new owner replaced it and drove it for years.

I bought a 8 pack of coils from Auto-zone so they would have the lifetime warranty. Ignition system has been flawless ever since. Who knows who's coils was repackaged for Auto-zone but I have one 9 miles away. I usually buy OEM but couldn't see it when the Ford units kept failing.
