Default Tohatsu 25 HP outboard question

Ok, guys/gals, I have a question for you all. I have a 25 HP Tohatsu. I ran it awhile back with some older gas (probably 4-6 months old gas). Well, it seemed to run fine then but I ran it this past Saturday with some new gas, and it ran but I had a hard time getting it started. Once I got it started it ran fine but if I killed it and tried to re start it, I had a very hard time getting it restarted. I am thinking that maybe I need to clean the carburetors and MAYBE that will fix the problem but would like to hear some advice from you guys/gals. Thanks in advance!

Dwyane, I am not a mechanic by any means. Assuming your running a 4stroke. If it were me before I tore the carb apart I would throw new plugs in it and then would try a tank of Rec fuel with a double dose of marine Sea Foam mixed in. Run it wide open for a good bit of the tank. Old gas and ethanol don't due us any favors.

Vbottom, thanks for the reply! I am running a 2 stroke. And I agree with you. I was talking to my nephew about it and telling him I was going to clean the carbs and he said - CHANGE THE PLUGS FIRST! I hadn't even thought about that! Going to pick some plugs up this afternoon and get them changed out this weekend. Oh and I do NOT run ethanol fuel in ANY of my small engines! I agree with you on that too! Thanks again for the reply!

If it comes down to carb cleaning, try the sea foam first. Worked on a weed eater for me once.
