    Default Motor Turning While Trailering

I recently bought a 2018 Tracker Panfish 16 with a Merc. 40hp 4 stroke. I have a problem with the motor swinging to the side while trailering. Was wondering if there is some way to keep the motor straight. Looks to me like it is putting a lot of excessive stress on the motor totter not to mention the probability of damage to the cables. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just use a bungee cord on the steering wheel to keep it straight

A bungy cord or a strap should fix your issue. Also, it may be a good idea to put your motor in gear to keep the propeller from spinning while you are trailering it. A buddy pointed this out to me a few years ago, says it help from wearing out the bearing.

I have the same problem with my 60hp Mercury. Before that the boats were so old and the steering so stiff. No problem with them turning

Wrap a bungee cord around the stick to somewhere on your boat to secure it
