That's why every boat should have a safety chain on the winch.
Almost lost a boat once when the winch let loose, they will fail eventually.
I was checking over our boat the other day after replacing the trolling motor head. Lights, tire pressures etc. Got to the winch strap only to find that the box X stitching threads that form the loop for the bow hook have separated approximately 50%. Got a new RHINO brand ordered that will arrive today. Just a note here so y’all might consider checking yours…

Agreed. Mine does as well. Thank for the safety chain reminder as well.

Certainly is a wear item. Absolutely needs check and replaced when they get worn

The new strap and hook are certainly beefier than the original. Stitching is better with waxed thick thread.

Not to change the PSA importance, I've looked at both pictures and notice your Stoltz roller is "gummed up" like mine have always done. Does anyone have a good method for preventing that or at least effectively cleaning them? They are non marking when new but once that gum builds up it marks every time.

I would think one could use mineral spirits. My boat is camo with a plate at the bow just below the eye so I don’t notice any hull marking.
