I'm looking to put a TM with a foot controller on my 14ft jon boat. I can fabricate or purchase a mount to attach this to my boat no problem. The problem i'm running in to is finding what trolling motors on the market take up a small footprint on the bow. My boat doesn't have a large lip at the front. I have about 13 inches from the lip to the front gunnel of the boat. I know i can always mount the TM at an angle to account for longer mounts, but I would like to keep the center as open as I can. Just looking to see if there are any options out there that could accommodate what i'm working with.

Here’s a pic of the front. I can give a better picture when I get off of work today, this is all I had on hand.

No reason you couldn't extend the deck on the side to allow for mounting the motor. I had to do that on a Crosby Sled I redid

If that's the case, what kind of dimensions am I going to have to have to mount up a trolling motor? I can't find any dimensions of TMs out there on the web. I've been looking at the quick disconnect plates that each manufacturer sells to get an idea of what the dimensions are but I don't see any information of the size of the units aside from shaft length.

I would rebuild that small deck and make it even with the top of the boat about 15 inches deep, or at least the lenght of whatever slide bracket you use. That way it doesn't matter how long the troller is.
I had a 14ft boat that I built a deck on front so I could use a seat. Had a hand held troller hooked up to a sewing machine peddle to cut it on and off. Good times......lol.

I'm not too keen on losing more space and raising my center of gravity on this boat. I would like to stay at the same level im at in the boat. I'm just wondering what the base of these TMs measure out to. I feel like there is enough room to fit one up there If I raise a mounting bracket up to the top of the gunnel, I just have no idea about what these measure out to so I can't get an accurate idea to plot some spots out.
My mind worked different than yours as for placing the motor on the bow of my jon boat.
First off i wanted storage for the battery, and other items as well.
As well as a place to fasten my 2 bank battery charger.
So i built a wood box about 10” high and about 4” narrower on each side than the original front deck.
I have an opening in the rear uncovered which gives access to the inside space.
The trolling motor is mounted on top of the box on a quick disconnect bracket.
The space on either side allows for rod storage.
I also attached driftmaster rod holder bases to the top of the box as well.

I believe the trolling motor will have to be mounted even with the top of the boat

I understand where y’all are coming from. I like the layout of my boat currently and being lower to the water line allows me to cast under limbs and logs easily. I could fabricate a bracket to raise the motor to the top of my boat no problem. I’m wondering how long the base of the motor is to not have it hanging too far off of the front of the boat. According to the quick disconnect plates, I should have enough room to mount it up front with a bracket, but I don’t know how far the rail and base will be together.
