I can almost TASTE a 115 hp Mercury 4 stroke on my boat but the problem is the old carbureted 90 hp (gas guzzling) Johnson that is on it runs OK. It wouldnt be worth much on trade in and probably couldnt sell it without practically giving it away so my only choice is to continue running it.

Get the Smartcraft gauge instead of Vesselview. If you ever have an issue, it will show you the actual trouble codes. Vesselview has it's own set of codes that don't translate into anything that we can get a hold of, only the dealers are able to cross them. And like most mobile apps it has been very buggy for me.

Mercs have timing chains now. They should last the life of the motor, which they pretty much have to since they are not serviceable without pulling the powerhead.

Now that sounds as bad as putting a starter inside the bell housing on a transmission, You have to pull the tranny to replace or service it.
