    Default Used Stick Steer Boat

I am going to look at a used Stick Steer boat this week. It's a 1995 Fisher Hawk 15 SS. I have been trying to research this further, but i can't find a lot of info. It appears that this was made after Fisher was sold to Brunswick in 1990 and before it was sold to Tracker in 1996.

As with any boat that is nearly 30 years old, I worry about decay. I have read some information that says Fisher boats around that time were all aluminum, but apparently they did start putting wooden floors sometime in the 90's. My questions are:

    1. Does anyone know if this model was all aluminum or not?

    2. Does anyone in the community have any experience with this model or similar ones built around this time?

Obviously I will try to determine the condition of the floor, transom as well as the rest of the boat when I go see it. I was hoping to get some feedback on what to specifically look at and also what experience others have had with Fisher boats from this time frame. I have only bought one used boat previously and while I think I did pretty well, I am far from experienced at knowing what to look for.

I also have some reservations that even though it looks very good in pictures, the registration sticker on the boat is the pictures is from 2016.

I really like the idea of a Stick Steer boat and used ones in this part of the country are pretty rare.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Default Used Stick Steer Boat

My brother in law at the time, around 1998-99, had a 94 Fisher that he let me is use when I wanted as payment for storing it for him. It was a 15 with a tiller steer. All aluminum flooring, side walls, everything. It was a great little boat. I helped him redo the carpet, was a very easy boat to work on, take apart and put back together. Was a sad day when he pulled it away for the last time, they got divorced in 2002. I offered to buy it but he wouldn’t part with it. He still has it and looks almost as good as the last time it left my shop. I am a SS fan for sure. I bet it is all aluminum as well. I may be wrong but I bet you will love it. My suggestion would be to look under it, check for gouges and any sealant that has been applied around rivets or anywhere.

I had a 97 Marsh Hawk 180. All aluminum, never leaked. Traded it in on current boat in 2018.

Went to look at the boat today. I was surprised that the boat was as good a shape as it was for a 28 year old boat. It did appear to be all aluminum. The floor, transom and sides all looked great. I suppose that would be because of the aluminum. The 9.9 Mariner outboard started right up. The current owner stated he had just had it serviced. It also had a new bilge pump and the bottom was also free of any major scratches and definitely no gouges or other areas of concern. Trailer was also in pretty good shape with new tires. I would inspect and replace the bearings if needed anyway since I think that is something everyone should do and some people neglect.

It's setup pretty typical of a Stick Steer Crappie Boat. Very much like a Tracker Panfish 16 with 2 seats plus a livewell in the middle. Not a lot of storage. Mostly just under the seats. But think that is expected on a 15' boat.

I told them that i would confirm with them tomorrow if I was going to purchase.

Thanks to everyone for their insight.

    Default Used Stick Steer Boat

Sounds like a good boat as long as the price is reasonable for you. Used Stick Steer Boat if you do get it just remember there is a learning curve to a Stick Steer, especially at lower speeds around the docks and loading up but I promise you will really like being able to run everything from one seat. I’ve had one for about ten years and for how and where I fish it makes for a perfect setup for me. If you do get it please post pics, would love to see it.

I've heard only good things about Fisher. I'm curious if the cable for the steer is in good shape. Even if it's not it wouldn't deter me from buying if I liked it. I've owned two front remote steer. Loved em both.

I picked up the boat today. Will post pics soon. As with any 20+ year old boat, there are minor issues to work on. The only major issue is that the tilt mechanism for the outboard looks to be nonfunctional. I'm not real concerned about that since I really had no intentions of running a 23 year old 2 stroke outboard. I know lots of people do run older outboards and 2 strokes and many run great, but since most of my local lakes are electric only anyway, I'm looking at running an all electric boat.

The issue with electric outboards are that they are still really expensive and there aren't a lot of manufacturers in the market right now, but that is changing. I may run a transom mount trolling motor and a bow mount trolling motor for a couple of years until the electric outboard market matures. I already have a transom mount trolling motor that is only about a year old. I do want to add a spot lock bow mount trolling motor no matter what I do with the transom propulsion.

It does appear that the stick steer is in good shape.

Default Finally done for this year

Been very busy at work, so it has taken me longer to get the work done for this year than I wanted. But here are the pics of the boat.

Since I fish almost all electric only lakes, I have bow and stern trolling motors for now. Next spring I will be putting an electric outboard on it with stick steer. ePropulsion definitely makes a remote steer kit. The new Mercury Avator also lists a remote steer kit.

300ah of lithium batteries fit under the rear seat. Currently have 2 batteries in parallel for the bow trolling motor and the other battery powers the bilge, livewell (which I probably won't use much or at all), lights and fishfinders.

I did some work to the trailer. This winter I will finish the trailer with new radial tires, hubs, axles, trailer jack and wiring.

BTW - Crappie.com decals are on the way and will be applied this week.

    Here are the pics.
