    Default Bearing buddy

I have a trailer that has always had bearing buddies. It hasn't been used in 15 years. Suppose the buddies are still good? If it takes grease and the spring works I would think it's ok.

I would think they would be fine it they take the grease. Unless the old grease has hardened up inside them.

I'm with DSJ on this .... the Bearing Buddy's are fine, but I'd have my doubts about the grease. Probably be a good idea to pop them off and check the grease (and the bearings, too) and replace if not in good shape .... especially if the trailer is going to be in use to any degree or for any length of time. And it's always a good idea to check the rear seal for leakage, which is easily seen if there's grease splatter on the inner part of the rim.

Bearing buddies don't really push any grease to where it needs to go, they have a relief hole to actually prevent that from happening. Their theory of operation is that the spring around the cap keeps constant positive pressure on the hubs, preventing water from entering. Pumping grease in just compresses the spring. I have never seen one where the hubs would hold pressure for any length of time though.

After 15 years I'd be surprised if the rubber in the bearing buddies was still good, but you can give them a shot anyway. Best to pull them and put some new grease in before towing any distance.

15yrs? I'd pull the bearings and clean them good. Grease in them is probably hardened up. Not that big a job and could save some real headaches!
