    Default Toasted Wheel Bearing?

So I had them greased. Took boat out scouting in this 40s rainy weather not finding much at all.
I got home and found this with a nice metal smell.

Didn’t hear, see, smell anything that would make me question it today. Did hear something but was unable to find out/ unable to reproduce, think I found what it was though.

How bad and how hard is it to fix?

*PS website is rotating the picture 90 degrees counter clockwise and don't know how to fix picture orientation either

Doesn't look like any fresh grease in that one. At least it hung in there until you got it to where you were going. Would have been nasty if it had parted ways at speed

I would say your bearing disintegrated. Prolly need it and and the races replaced. It’s not hard to do. Might be worth having both sides redone for peace of mind. Hopefully your axle isn’t damaged.

Grease buddies go on top of all that?

Looks like those are the easy lube style spindles, not bearing buddies. Those should have pushed grease through the bearings and done a pretty good job, but apparently not since those are toasted.

Bearing buddies don't really accomplish much. I've never found them to work as designed but I think they're better than nothing. They won't pump any fresh grease through the bearings, and I've never seen a hub that was sealed well enough for them to keep positive pressure in the hub like they're supposed to.

Chances are you'll be fine with new bearings. Pretty inexpensive fix. There's a chance it may have eaten into the spindle or the hub, but that's usually not the case.

No. Looks like an EZlube axle with the zerk in the end.

Update, couldn't wait till tomorrow to find out what is wrong. First boat/trailer so didn't know what I didn't know.
Going to get with Karavan Trailer and see what/if anything would work to replace the axel. Least I got home safe.

Pulled tire off and hub wiggled, so I pulled and the hub came off so knew can't be good.

Did you notice the missing front bearing?
Damaged Spindle and will have to replace the axel as everything is welded on my trailer.

The one thing I can't figure out, unless it just broke down, is that all the grease (or what was left) sprayed all over (with metal dust) the back of spindle, inside the tire and inside the tire hub.

Do you use grease buddies or what? Just keep checking them? How often?

I see you are in Alabama but around here there is a guy that will weld you a new spindle on. Might be somebody around you before buying a new axle. Just make sure he has a jig that will keep everything trued up.
    Looks like yours is shot.
Might as well check the other side and replace inner and outer bearings and races along with rear seal.
And yep the outer bearing is gone.
You are very lucky to get home and not lost the entire hub and tire going down the highway.
Guess you saw how the hub was cracked in the picture.
    Good luck on repairs.
