    Default 2015 or 2016 Minn Kota Terrova 24 v

Is anyone aware if there are any updates available for this trolling motor? I know it's never been updated before. The spot lock is horrible. 10-15 ft radius.

Was wondering if anyone knew how to update it to hopefully bring that in a little bit before I break down and buy a new one.

You can upgrade your to an IPilot and IPilot Link. Much less expensive than buying a whole new Tm. See this link.

You can upgrade them to the newest Bluetooth version but it's pretty cost prohibitive. Have to change the main board and it's about $700 worth of parts last I knew. People usually don't go through with it since it's easier to just sell their old one and buy a new one for about the same money.

FYI- GPS is only accurate to 10'-33'.
Learn to use the wind to your advantage. Let the wind push you to the end of the range and spotlock will hold you there. I lock 10-20' upwind from where I want to be and let the wind, TM work to hold me where I actually want to be.

That’s absolute accuracy. Over a short time, the errors shouldn’t vary nearly that much. A few feet is easily obtainable in spot lock accuracy. I can usually hold and vertically fish the same branch in a brush pile for hours even in wind or current.

Two common reasons for spotlock sloppiness: electrical interference with the GPS in the TM and incorrect boat scale setting. I don’t know if there is a boat scale setting on this motor, but it can make an enormous difference in spot holding accuracy.

The second gen Terrova has terrible spot lock, anything 2019 and newer with the Blu tooth remote are plain awesome. I would do as mentioned above sell this one and get newer Terrova or Ulterra.

I would add, I have the Ulterra with the link. It has a touchscreen remote that I absolutely HATE. It's always getting "touched" and turning off my auto pilot or spot lock.
There is a way in the remote to turn off the touch screen but dang near impossible to turn it back on.
I wish someone would make a cover that flipped over it.

I wouldn't get another link for 2 reasons. I don't use HB graphs, but more importantly, when I had one, the link was of very little use. The navigation features etc. were not helpful on impounded waters. You have to drive everything to record ahead of time... welp that's a waste of time.
The non-link remote is way better and you save some dough.

Actually, I kinda miss my Terova. Auto deploy is neat when it works...

And for GPS, get and use the hockey puck. Place it at the far end of the boat. Like someone else mentioned, GPS is only accurate to about 10ft. The second GPS (early pucks were only compass') does wonders for heading and sticking to the spot. Everyone's boat is at least 10ft long. Be sure to put a power switch on it.

A friend of mine has an older non Bluetooth Terrova (2016 I believe). His spotlock was "wild" at best. It would over run on much higher than necessary power and then correct the same way at much higher than needed power. Back and forth, back and forth......
He read online that this could be caused by interference and twisting the power wires in the shaft could help alleviate this. Since he is mechanically challenged he asked me to do the work and I of course obliged thinking there's so way this will make a difference. I was wrong. It made a significant improvement and he still has the Terrova in use on his boat. Pull the head off the top and twist the power wires going down the shaft (black and red) as much as you can. If it helps yours as much as it helped his, you may not want to spend any money on an upgrade.
