    Default mid size truck

going to be shopping for a mid sized pick up with a 6ft box and a cab and a half style. for towing my boat any suggestions or pro's and cons of the new trucks, seems like the Toyota Tacoma is at the top of the list, any thoughts on the competition, Colorado, ranger, canyon or the nisson, 4cyl vs 6cyl ect

    Go with the Toyota.
It will out last the others and hold its value better.
Just crazy what the prices have gotten to.
Iíve been looking at the Toyota Tacoma and the forerunner prices for a year or so.
Normally and for years and years Iíve been a Ford guy.
They are high also so I guess thatís the way it is going to be!!
Canít buy them even at sticker price.
10k over sticker is just Stupid I think.

I was at my local ford dealership last week. I know the owner and most of the salesman, mechanics, etc.
Sat in the showroom shooting the breeze for a while.
It is just mind boggling the prices of trucks and SUVís.
Paid less for my house than what a new super duty diesel cost.
The salesman said there were only a couple vehicles you could buy for sticker price. All others were 10k over sticker.
I guess if people continue to pay it will stay that way.
Ford truck plant and another plant that builds the escape is only 10Ė-15 miles away from me.
They have Thousands upon Thousands of those vehicles parked in my county and several other locations waiting on some part or another.
    Not even the computer chip.
Wiper motors, door handles, and other things.
The supply chain is unreal on some of the stuff.
My buddies son is the Building Chairman for the Union at 1 plant and says itís not getting much better.
I think the bottom is gonna fall out of the car industry at some point but thatís just My opinion.

When I was shopping for a new truck I visited my local Toyota dealer, and first thing the salesman said to me was they do not haggle about the sticker price. AND they had every truck loaded up with $200 floor mats, $300 paint protection etc....
I found a nice Nissan loaded up with the options I wanted $4K under the Taco. 6200# towing capacity. Not as may bells and whistles as my bride's Subaru Outback, but a nice solid truck.

First, how big is the boat?

I wouldn't take a Nissan if you gave it to me.

Toyota is good from a reliability standpoint. But the Tacoma hasn't seen a major update since 2015, and the drivetrains are probably 10 years behind that. That's good or bad depending on how you look at it. Only engine options are a 4 cyl and the 3.5 V6, which for even light towing I wouldn't want that 4 cylinder. The V6 is pretty stout though.

I'd put the new Ranger as second choice before the GM. The 2.3 turbo is a proven sturdy little engine that's been produced in various forms for 10+ years, started in the Mazda CX7 and the Mazdaspeed3/6 back in the mid 2000s. Although again, I wouldn't want to do any serious towing with it.

My thoughts also, about the bottom dropping out.

I am curious why you would make that statement, without any reasoning.
In 2017 we had some serious snow here in western Kentucky and my 2004 Ford Ranger, 2WD wouldn't make it up my 1/4 mile gravel drive. I went looking for a 4WD pickup and after shopping in person and on-line I went to look at the Nissans (Ford had not released the New Ranger yet). The Frontier was a full $4K less than a comparable Tacoma. My Frontier is an upper model with lots of convenience features and a towing capacity of 6200 pounds. It performs admirably in snow and gets, what I consider, adequate gas mileage (22 MPG Highway - 17 MPG around town). The only problem I had was not Nissan's fault when I got bumped in the rear and knocked one of the back-up sensors loose.

For the money it has been a very adequate vehicle and it will probably be the last truck I buy.
