    Default Clicking noise?

I just installed a new Noco 3 bank charger and ran one bank to each of 3 batteries. Charger is wired correctly LOL

When charging the starting battery, my outboard starts to make a clicking noise. I unplugged the charger and tried a portable charger on the starting battery - same thing a clicking noise from the Yamaha.

The starting battery is 3 to 4 yrs old, maybe a dead dead battery? I unhooked everything from the starting battery and have it isolated and on charge now. Will retry after/if the battery makes it to a full charge status.

Anyone experience this clicking noise from their outboard while charging the starting battery? What was the cause?

    Thx

I have a Merc and my charger would do weird stuff when charging the motor battery while still connected to the motor. I rarely charge the starting battery but I started disconnecting it now when I do.

I have Etec 75hp, Duracell group 31, MinnKota Digital 3 bank charger and no issues. I never disconnect my starting batter from the charger. I charge all 3 batteries after every trip.

Disconnect everything and check voltages of each battery. This should confirm if clicking is from individual low voltage protection at the charger found on most new chargers.
If a low battery is good but just "Pulled Down", a workaround is to charge it in parallel thru a good charged battery.
I install individual battery disconnects at each battery, and keep them off when not in use (Like on the trailer).
This eliminates the chance of parasitic drain on any battery, and the low voltage issue as well. Maybe even melted wires, or worse!
