stripped bolt
1986 25 hp evinrude, bolt on left top side of starter is stripped out. Tried blue loctite and did't hold, tried super glue and didn't hold. If I hold/put pressure on starter it will engage flywheel and works just fine. When I get back to Florida my go to great friend Bill will know what to do. Any suggestions for now would be appreciated. Don't want to use red loctite incase I ever have to take it out. Thanks

An old farmers trick is to a piece of copper wire in the stripped out hole. The wire forms to what is left of the threads in the hole. Works best with a bolt that has good threads. I have made threaded inserts on a lathe to put into the hole after it was drilled out and tapped to a larger sizr. Take a bolt a that is larger. Drill through the center, thread to the size of the starter bolt, drill out stripped hole and tap to the size of the bolt. A little loctite and you are good to go.

Instead of lock tite, I prefer a light dab of anti seize, and tighten to the correct torque. The next guy in there will thank you.

If the hole where the bolt goes into goes all the way through you could just use a size smaller bold but longer and put a nut on other side. That would make you a good temp repair where you could use until you get home and can make proper repair.

TEFLON tape works magic on loose fitting screws that will not tighten good. Just don't be a mussel head.
