    Default How fast? 2004 Tracker Superguide V16 w/ Mercury 40HP 3cyl EFI

How fast should a 2004 Tracker Superguide V16 aluminum w/ Mercury 40HP 3cyl EFI go? Only getting about 25 MPH with 2 people and gear. It looked like there was more room to go on the throttle, so I adjusted it, but I did not get any more RPM or MPH. Just wondering if this is normal or should I be expected to get more out of it. I have to trim the motor so that it is almost cavitating to achieve this speed. With the motor trimmed all the way down, it only gets about 20 MPH.

What RPM are you turning at WOT?

I'm not sure. The digital gauge isn't working. I just know that when I adjusted for more throttle throw, the engine didn't rev any higher than the setting that it was at previously. I have a new digital tach that I have to install before the next time I take it out. What should be the WOT RPM? I thought I read 5500-6000.

With the correct prop and set-up I expect that you should be able to get closer to 30mph with that combo.

I think you're in the ballpark. You might get a little more by playing with props, but I wouldn't expect more than a couple MPH. That deep V hull is heavy and drafts quite a bit of water, it isn't made for speed.

I was basing my estimate of 30mph on the fact that I have a Starcraft 160 Patriot (12 degree deep V) that does 24mph (gps) with a 25hp 4s merc. While his side console will make his boat slightly heavier, my "V" is probably even deeper.

I tried to see if I could see the throttle body butterfly at WOT, but it seems to be buried and a pain to get to. I have the tachometer hooked up now so hopefully I can get a WOT reading to see if it's in the 5500 to 6000 range.

Hope to take the boat out tomorrow.

Keep in mind that a deep v isn’t made for speed.
