A momentary push button along with wiring should be all you need at a minimum
I could probably google this but you fellas are way smarter than google. My neighbor has a Husky log splitter with a 11 hp B&S pull start on it. If you don't get it rolled over to the compression release it kicks like a mule when you try to start it. Bad enough that it will rip the pull start out of your hand and destroy the rewind. He had an electric start put on it but in an effort to save money he didn't have a switch put on it. I guess we will have to jump the starter terminal to get it started. This is based on what he told me and what I saw when I looked at it. It has a place for a battery so my question is- what would I need to have if I wanted to add a battery and a switch, either key start or push button start.

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
That's what I was hoping to hear. I assume one hot wire from the battery to the push button, then to the starter. Ground battery to the frame.

I had a lawnmower years ago that I actually used a 120v light switch.

Art is terrible but here you go.
You will also need to wire a kill switch from the coil to ground with a single position switch.
I don't think you need a kill switch but I would use a solenoid for safety. The old style ford solenoid (mounts on the firewall) would do the job and a lot cheaper.
