So I started the splitter a few times by using jumper cables connected to the truck battery, grounding to the frame of the splitter and touching the bolt on the starter. Other than some sparks, it worked good. I bought a 50A 12v momentary push button and wired it with no solenoid, just a wire from the battery to the button and then to the starter and grounded to a bolt on the engine. Works like a charm. Thanks for all the input.
And yes, I shut it off like I always did, push the throttle lever to the kill position
Bonus points if you would "Hide" the starter button to prevent "mischievous" things from going on, since you don't use a key at this time...
