    Default Mercury optimax issue

Hello all. I live in Southern Indiana about 35 miles north of Louisville Kentucky. I am trying to find a reliable mechanic near me. My motor has a continuous alarm which my understanding is a overheat issue. Sadly I don’t have the Smartcraft gauges. I would probably be Interested in purchasing that also. 🤣 I don’t mind traveling but would like to keep it under an hour drive if possible. Any help is appreciated.

P.M.S. on Poplar Level is very good, yeah I know funny name, actually it's Professional Marine Service. Also SMI Marine is good, it's on Westport Rd. just east of the Gene Snyder I265. This is where I take my boat as it's not far from me.
    SMI 502-435-8113 PMS 502-966-0046.

Thanks. I had someone else recommend PMS. Do you know if they do the diagnostic also?

I can't say for sure, but I'm sure they do, they've got a good service dept. I go over there when I need parts and so far they've always had what I needed. Not bad when your motor is 42 years old. 1980 100HP 'rude.
If you come around the Watterson, it's south on Poplar Level on the left, not sure how far down, but the building looks sort of like a Moby Dicks place
    give them a call !

Have you checked the tell tale to see if its making water? I have a 135 Optimax and dirt daubers built a "condo" in mine last year and I had the same symptom (steady warning). I cleaned it out from the outside and that wasn't enough. I ended up taking the hood off and disconnecting the hose at the cowl fitting and cleaning the entire tell tale assy out to fix the issue. Once I did that and reconnected the hose.... no more warning and water was flowing. Apparently, if it can't push the air out of the block through the TT it'll overheat?

When you do it that way you want to have the motor running in water or water attached. This way the trash will get washed out instead of just pushed up further.

I know it was pissing ok when we started out. When I got the alarm I shut it off. I have checked and everything appears to be clear.
