    Default Fulton folding tongue hinge

Planing on replacing the worn tongue hinge on my boat trailer . Fulton has one that after the old one is removed the new one bolts on , after the old one is cut off and the new one put on the rongue will be 6 inches shorter , am I going to have problems with the trailer when I do this?

If the original is welded on. The welds can be ground out with a grinder or a weld shop could gouge the old one off. That would save that six inches. A trailer with a short tongue is a pain to me. When backed deep enough in the water to launch a shorter tongue trailer has the tow vehicle closer to the water. Not as much room between the truck and the boat where the whinch is. Makes it a little more difficult to pull the boat up. Never thought about one of those folding tongue hinges wearing out

The hinge on the original is wore to the point that the coupler will move up and down about an inch , I have tightned the bolts and have replaced them but after a while it is loose. looking at the new hinge the distance would probably be closer to 3 inches . Replacing the hinge will depend on finding one , sold out one source said they expect some mid March .

A good machine shop could drill out the worn holes and put a bushing in to make the hole the correct size again

I could do that but I would feel safer with a hinge that is more substantial

I LOVE my Fulton Swing Away. It gave me the extra clearance I needed in the garage. I shopped around and found mine for just under a hundred bucks thru Amazon. Prices varied a great deal. When I cut that end of the trailer neck off, I filed the edges down smooth, and spray painted it very well to prevent rust. I lightly greased the hinge with a grease needle on my grease gun, and greased the pull pin, never any slack and swings snug and easy. I remember when I first saw one at a boat show, a dealer there was bragging on them, and said the $500.00 upcharge to get one was worth every cent. Hmmm...
Best wishes on the replace, take care of it and it should outlast you!

I see that Amazon is out, but I found this 3" x 5" for $143.99, others should be out there.
Mine also came with a hole centering punch, fasteners, and tool to hold the bolt head.

Thank you for the lead , I called that company and the lady said they have not had that part for months and had no idea if or when they would get some.
