    Default yamaha outboard Diagnostics

Bought a new Yam a haw outboard. Would like to read data on it but would rather not spend da big bucks for the factory tool.

Any body got any experience with one of these off ebay?

There are similar devices available on Amazon. I would order from Amazon myself, although a bit more expensive. You can always return it to Amazon if it doesn’t work.

I have a Mercury and purchased Vessel View. It kind of does the same thing. I wanted it for engine hours though. It has an app for my phone. It gives me hours and any diagnostic codes as well.

Let us know how it works out for you.

I have a 2020 model Yamaha F25 and did some preliminary research on setting up a NMEA backbone system to connect it to the modern fishfinders for real time data. Never could find out for sure what all my small motor would actually show other than hours, RPMs, and charging voltage. I know on the larger outboards they can show engine temp, oil pressure, water pressure, fuel consumption rate, etc. I can't recall the cost either. It wasn't terrible and definitely seemed like a decent deal if you had a newer motor that was many times more expensive than mine. I never purchased anything because I have been meaning to get a new fishfinder for a couple years now so wasn't sure which brand adapters I would need.

Does your 25 shake at idle?

Yeah, some. But I believe it's common on these due to some sort of weight reduction on the counterbalance crankshaft weights. I only have maybe 15 hours on mine even though its over a year old so can't say for myself if it gets better but I have read that it does get better over time for whatever reason. It doesn't bother me too bad since it pretty much goes away with the slightest amount of throttle. And things like that usually drive me bonkers lol.
