How can you stop dirt dobbers from building a condo in your pee hole?

Yesterday while taking the Kenner out on High rock I noticed it didn’t have water coming out of the tell tale hole. (135 Opti)
Since it was making water out the exhaust, I knew the water pump was pumping so I made the call to go on and the water would blow the mud out of the hole once it was under way and the mud got wet. I was wrong. Long story short…. Ended up taking the cowl off, un hooking the hose and straightening a hook to dig the bee crud from the hole. (more than just mud)
Is there a good way to keep them from building in there?
Maybe a golf tee stuck in the hole when the boat is not being used?

That would work. Golf tee, pipe cleaner or piece of wire. Anything really would work.

Had them build a nest in the bilge pump outlet.

Maybe Vaseline. Would that wash itself out when you got under way? Incase you forgot to pull the golf tee

I would think as hot as it gets in summer the Vaseline would melt out.

Just go fishing every day. Don't give them time to mud it up

I stick a piece of weed eater line in mine.....if I forget to pull it out, it will blow out when I start the outboard.

A small piece of blue painters tape when you park it. I take it off when I plug the boat. It’s also on my “preflight” checklist I keep.

Those outboard engineers could put a small flap like on top of a tractor exhaust pipe to close that hole and stop all that condo building
