LOL (again). Which Ex as there were a couple…?

As to that cloud, it’s DARK, not black!

Sorry, just had to prime the pump so to say.

Hopefully all the parts will be here by Friday night and I can drive the 70+ miles to where the boat and motor is to see if I can fix it on Saturday - and that I can obtain some assistance then report back here. In the service manual I also noted that I will need a torque wrench and even some Lock-Tite or equivalent, so I better get cracking on that as well.

I actually have changed a starter in my life but that was early 1980 on a 1975 Chevy Van, which is a lot easier to work on than these new motors and vehicles. But I’ll take my time.or, at least try to!

Thank you all for your input, thoughts and prayers, as I need them.

    Bob

Reminds me of something I read a while back. A man caught a fish with a wedding band inside the fish. Initials were inside the band. Asking around, someone told Him who it might belong to, and He got the man's number and called Him. The man said "Yes that's was my ring, I threw it in the river, and NO I DO NOT WANT IT BACK! That woman was CRAZY! She jinxed me every whichaway! Throw it away!".
The man replied "OK, sorry I bothered you. This might explain why my outboard motor started running poorly, and now I can't get it to start at all...".

    LOL.

Sounds like wife one. She was a standin (or role model) for Jessica Walter's in "Play Misty for me"

Well, drove over to the lake and to where I store the boat this afternoon. A good friend also came over to assist and the new starter was easy to get in with the proper tools!

Double-checked everything, reconnected the wires and battery, turned the key and…

    ...BY GOD IT WORKED!

It even fired up and ran till we shut her down. Didn’t have a torque wrench but used Benny’s (my friend) judgement, added some Blue Lok-Tite and all seemed well. I even stuck around and cleaned up a little and organized things with some coming home with me and the other placed into an organized chaos.

Benny is a good friend who I have entrusted the installation of the new steering cable that finally arrived this afternoon on the other boat. While the FEDEX delivered a smooshed box, the contents looked okay. He has really made some progress on that boat, a 1988 Lowe Sea Nymph Sidewinder 175, as it hasn’t been on the water in over two years. Drained the gas, changed the lower unit lube, charged the batteries and the like, and BY GOD IT WORKED TOO when he fired it up!

Still a ways to go on that boat so we can ALL use it to fish and take the family out on a safer vessel BUT making progress.

Hopefully my JON boat will be good through the hunting season and we plan/hope to get the Sea Nymph out there soon - and then I’ll go crazy upgrading it’s electrical and lighting!!!

I have to admit, the starting motor was easier than I thought, and it didn’t appear I did any damage from that short last week. AND, I didn’t mention it but I bought both the starter and solenoid from the Amazon Warehouse as a “Like New” condition and BY GOD it looked brand new too!

However, I decided NOT TO replace the solenoid with another “Like New” one from Amazon Warehouse as it was obviously a RETURN and had the word “ BAD” written in BIG letters by the previous purchaser on the box. Not a good sign IMHO.

You win some, you don’t win some….

Anyway, and as usual, I deeply appreciate the counsel I have received here; for working on the boat and dealing with EX’s too. It is a good group of people on here and I want to thank you all.

    G’nite.

    Yes, great news.
    One more tip guys:
Keep a little jump starter box in your boat when you go out. If you have one for your truck, you can put it in the boat when you go out. Charge 'em once a year or so to keep it ready.
Easily jump start your boat if your battery goes bad, help someone on the river if their battery goes bad, maybe their boat or truck, with no chance of damage to YOUR charging system. Can charge your cell phone too. Not very expensive, I have 4 of them. Priceless when you need 'em!

I not only have cables but in the Jon boat I also have jumper wires (#6-8 copper wire) that I can install in parallel (wiring) so that if one battery runs low, but not dead, I can combine the two under the seat for more (?) power.

    That's PURE copper, stranded wire.
