It fixed my cavitation plate on my 115 Mercury and is holding up excellent, but mine was not a third of what you have there...
    Thank you for the advice.

Well, It looks like this is a job for J B Weld. After calling 4 shops today, 3 of which don't exist any more, the 4th one said " yeh man, I've done those kind of jobs befoer, and I can fix it". I asked about what it would cost...I about fell out of my chair...He said a shade above $100.00. I explained it wasn't even 5" long that needed welding. He said $100.00 was the starting price and it could go up...
I found a good lower unit complete in Wisconsin for $140.00 and shipping ain't but $45.00...So It's J B weld time for now...Just need to heal up a bit and fix this thing right...

If that's a deal, I'd hate to get ripped off...

Being it is aluminium to weld it it would need to be cleaned to bare metal, heated to remove any oils, set up the welding machine, preheat, weld out one side, grind the crack out from the back side, weld out that side to that you have a complete weld. Grind, polish back down so you could not tell the repair had been made. All in all it would take between 1 and 2 hours depending on how things go. Considering what would go into do a good job that is not that bad if a price.

It may have been "G", and everyone else who said it was, And I'm not trying to be a tight wad with my money....Which is always in short supply. Just feel the way the man talked, and body language, He either thought I was a dummy, or something else. He just didn't give off very good vibes. And if the J B weld don't work, well then we will see. But doing it as TheGrandPoohBah said, I see no reason It won't. Their is also a two part puddy you can get at the auto parts store. More designed for plugging holes in fuel tanks, and when it sets up, it's just like steel. And fuel and oil can be present wit it. I had to use it on a 150 gallon diesel tank after it got hole in it the size of a dime. I had the truck for 4 yrs and it never leaked a drop, came loos or anything. Was still their when I sold the truck...

I only wrote my reply to state what was involved in doing the repair correctly. Some shops would have squirted a little weld at it and sent you on your way. A shop that was going to do the job for you as if they were doing it for themselves was going to have some time invested. It is understandable that money is tight. I sure don't wish to spend any money I do not have too

one thing to think about too !!! like you said "And if the J B weld don't work," what if the part breaks off while you are running down the lake ??? then what ???

Well I recon I better make a casting of this thing so If it comes off I got a replacement. I've had welds break to, just saying...Chances are slim though either way...
