Default 1994 Starcraft Superfisherman 170 Battery placement for 12/24 trolling motor

I have the listed boat and it came with a 12 volt plug for a bow mount trolling motor. I bought a motor guide Brute 750 to place on the bow and I need two batteries that will fit in the small forward compartment that is in front of the 2 bait wells. If anyone reading this is familiar with this boat they will know that 2 group 27 batteries in containment cases will not fit in this space! So I need advice as to what my options are? I know they make smaller deep cycle batteries but I was hoping someone on this forum might have the same boat and has come up with an answer to my problem.
    Thanks S

I do not have the same boat. I was cramped for room and used battery trays instead of the boxes. The batteries strapped securely to the trays and went neatly into the small rear compartment

AGMs can be stacked, laid sideways, upside down, wherever. Keep that in mind.

Instead of using battery boxes, I made a tray out of scrap 1x2s and ran a cinch strap over the top. They can't slide around, and the strap will keep them from bouncing out.

Generally I think the weight is always better up front, since a lot of fishing boats tend to already be stern heavy.

You can buy the plastic battery trays with the strap for about $10 a piece sized for the battery

I have been researching the AGM type and they will fit in the space but I need to know which size to get. My motor draws 47 amps and I need to be able to fish for about 4-5 hours. Fullriver makes a DC55 series that fits nicely but are 2 of those big enough? Or do I need to go to the maximum size that will fit which would be the DC85 series? I am not one to stay on the lake all day and if it's windy I will head home for the recliner.

Personally I would get the largest that would fit. Never know when your fishing style will change or you upgrade trolling motors. Extra capacity would be good if you had main engine trouble.

If the DC55 is 55ah, that would be marginal, you would only get about an hour of wide open run time.

    85s would be better.

As mentioned, it is nice to have the extra should you need it as a means to get back to the ramp. Saved me a couple times.
