Why not stick a builge pump in it with a on/off switch? Or buy one that automatically comes on as it senses water? I installed one in mine with a on/off switch wired and fused to battery.

I totally agree with a bilge pump.
Amazes me that some smaller older boats are sitting on the water without one. Fairly cheap and takes minutes to install.

You can get a 750gpm or 1100gpm bilge pump from most any marine store...or Wal-Mart....since you said you have a Jon boat I assume it does not have a sump to mount the pump in. I had 2 nice rule pumps in my last Jon boat back at the transome. I like to have one on a float switch and one with a manual switch. I wrap mine in window screen to keep trash like leaves, fish scales and old jigs out of the impeller.

A clorox jug with the bottom cut out can serve well for several different jobs.
Assuming there is an outboard on the boat which uses tiller steering, you can also get the boat up to speed a bit and pull the drain plug till the water runs out.
Keep the plug in your hand and just put it back in after it drains.
If we werent meant to be doing that, wouldnt they be installing the plugs from the outside of the hull?

We did it that way for years with one of my late Dad's fishing boats, just get it up on plane and reach down and pull the plug, worked great. Until...
...One day we were relocating from one fishin' hole to another. Dad had bolted down a quarter sheet or so of plywood to the floor near the rear of the boat for some reason or another across the ribs in the bottom of the boat. 12 horse Wizard got us in skint back mode, so Dad reached down and pulled the plug. We had taken on a few inches of nasty water with leaves and crud and we could not help but notice the nasty water was not going down like it should. Dad realized the hole must be plugged. Holding full throttle with one hand, He reached down into the crud back there with the other, and said "The dogged hole must be stopped up". A moment later, Dad with a furrowed brow looked confused and said "Son, there aint no hole down there". Keeping the Wizard wide open, He twisted around and looked and felt around down there until...
...He pulled out a snake about three feet long and quickly slung it right over my head where I was sitting in the front of the boat. It must have washed out from under or slid out from under the plywood and plugged the hole. I kidded Dad later on "That was rude, Dad, you know - not giving me a heads up before you slung the snake. I would have warned you, ya know...".
Some time later my Brother went down to Dad's to fish in that little boat that we kept up on the bank chained to a tree. Brother went to put some stuff in the boat and just caught a glimpse of the end of a snake's tail flipping over and going under that plywood. He decided to fish from the pier that day.
Small boat manufacturers should be required to place a sticker in boats warning of the dangers of snakes tendency to crawl under plywood that can lead to plugging up drain holes that have been known to lead to said snake being slung in the direction of unsuspecting passengers in said boat. Or, something like that.

Just when I thought I'd heard them all.
