That pour in stuff sure makes for a easier job then replacing with wood.

    Default 1996 Nitro Transom Repair

Well, thought I would share mine here as well. 1996 Nitro 170TF. I decided to use Arjay 6011 and to NOT use a chainsaw. The Arjay was a very good choice. Not so sure about skipping the chainsaw. The job was not technical, but was tedious. The wood in my transom was completely rotted in the middle, but about 15% or so on each side was still mostly intact, making removal more difficult. Also, as you can see from the pictures a previous owner drilled holes in the transom cap and filled them with epoxy, I guess in an effort to strengthen the transom. Didn't work, but made the removal that much tougher. I cut the top cap a little different than the other repair here. I wanted to make sure the seam from the cut was covered by the aluminum trim on the cap. Once the wood was out, (I spent maybe 15 hours on this part) I made a temporary repair of the damage done by the Jack plates. After I poured the Arjay (7 Gallons) and it had set I used a dremel to grind out the temporary repairs and made a permanent repair with polyester resin. I sanded the transom and had planned on using metal flake to match the existing gelcoat, but in the end I decided to pass on that idea (I don't have a compressor and gelcoat spray gun and really didn't want to go buy them). Instead I tinted my gelcoat black and sectioned off the repaired area and refinished with the black gelcoat. Once compete I had planned on wet sanding and polishing smooth, but I think I actually like the textured look I got. I used 4 coats of gelcoat, 3 unwaxed and the last with wax added. She is ready for the engine and the water! Sorry about the pics. Not sure how to put them in order or rotate them. Name: 20210705_174633.jpg

Awesome repair. I probably should have cut mine the same way so it was covered instead of filling. It would have made mine look better in the end. I hope you have the same luck on the water as I have. As for the boat we have almost the same thing and I am really pleased with mine.
