My deep cycle trolling batteries are 4 years old and still strong. All about how you treat them.
Forgot to add, they are Walmart batteries.
I know there are lots of options out there from deep cycle to AGM batteries, etc. My battery needs are to simply power a Minn Kota trolling motor that pushes my 14' Lowe boat around local reservoirs. I often longline troll, so I`d like a battery that will give me 4-6 hours of juice while I troll.
Was wondering if I`d be better owning 2 and rotating them for different days on the water?
When I read about most deep cycle it says they are likely to last for maybe 2 years in lifespan. I also read AGM`s like the Optima might give you a lifespan of 3-4 years. My thoughts are..You can buy a Walmart deep cycle for under $100 and maybe get 2 years out of it. On the other hand I see Optima`s in the upper $200's. Would I be just as well off buying a deep cycle Walmart special every 2 years as opposed to the more pricey AGM?
Thanks!

Life depends on how you take care of them drain them too low or not recharge as soon as possible. My Deep Cycle ( lead acid ) batteries last usually 6-8 years I try and not drain them too low and never let them sit discharged as soon as I get home the charger is plugged in.
The Walmart’s have served me well. I replaced a pair just over a year ago. Ones that had died when I checked were almost 6 years old. I run 2 group 27 together on a 55 Terrova on 17 wareagle and I can go at 1.2 all day unless fighting a really bad wind.
