The boat I recently purchased had one of the warning horn wires disconnected by the previous owner. He said that sometimes when turning it would trigger the low oil horn to sound so he cut it.. so based on some research I decided to bypass the VRO all together. But there are a few things going on with the warning lights that hopefully someone can assist with. So here goes..
I reattached the cut wire for the alarm to sound and it gives a short tone when turning on the key as it should. But after removing the oil tank wires and the the connector at the vro. I'm still getting the low oil/ and no oil lights to stay on. Also when I short the temp sensor wire to ground the temperature light comes on but the horn does not sound off. Is there a way to turn off the oil lights but allow for the temp light and horn to sound when needed? And also I did notice last night when troubleshooting that if I let the key stay on for a period of time then the temp light will come on it's own without shorting and the wire is disconnected at the temp sensor. I removed the battery cable for a bit and it seemed to rest the light to turn off after system check but comes on again if I leave the key on.
