    Default Solas Props

Does anyone have a past experience with the Solas 4 blade e-series Rubex prop or any of their props? They seem to be priced fairly low, $280 + hub kit $60

I have a Yamaha sho 175 now with a reliance series 17P 3 blade tacking to high 6300 so they say a 4 blade will drop the rpm down/

    thanks Steve

Steve that sounds like not enough prop for that 175. I run a 17 pitch on a 90. Usually for every step up or down in pitch changes the rpms about 200 or so.

You know I agree with you but it came from the factory with the reliance series 3 blade stainless 17P the motor tacks to high 6300+ so I was told a 4 blade same pitch would lower the rpm`s by about 200-300?

I think each boat is rigged to suit the individual and based on the options you choose affects the amount of loaded weight the hull has. Based on the numbers you are reporting and the recommended RPM range for that motor it looks like you need a 19 pitch prop. That should get your RPMs down to around 5900. If you are not too concerned turning it 6100 on occasion, you can run the 18 pitch. I would stick with a 3 blade unless you having hole shot problems. I don't think you are having hole shot problems based on my experience with that (hot rod) Yamaha SHO on the back of that boat.

You could take that prop to a rebuilder and explain what is going on with your RPM`s and they can add some cupping or tip cupping to bring down the RPM`s and get more bite in the corners. That is what I did to mine I was considering going to a 4 blade because my prop was blowing out in corners and hole shot was slow, it made a world of difference in RPM, hole shot and cornering.
