Transom Saver
Hey everyone...
Just bought new boat. Going from old boat with 30hp yamaha to new boat with Yamaha 115hp. I used a transom saver on old boat but wondering best options and looking for input from those trailering bigger boats with bigger engines.
I like the motor-toter to secure the engine solid but doesnt (to me anyway) relieve transom of over all weight/ pressure.

I like the motor mate but how does it help relieve the transom of weight of 115hp outbotd trailering and going over RR tracks etc?

I like and use the Motor Mate because my motor has solid mounts and the motor toter style would transfer all trailer vibration to the motor, for transom protection I would go with the motor toter style.

No...not just what my boat did going over RR tracks....i just wanna do best thing for new boat to take care of it and keep it in tip top shape.

Most will agree that the force placed against a transom is much higher when you gun it from a standstill with a full load, than the force of the motor bouncing on the road. You basically have 115hp pushing on a 2ft lever, lifting the bow out of the water.
Boat manufacturers seem to be divided, some encourage them and supply one with the boat, others deem them unnecessary.
I use one, mostly because my trailer is too low to haul with the motor trimmed down, and when trimmed all the way up on the locks, the carbs dribble gas into the splashwell. A support gets it just high enough to be out of the way.
You are absolutely correct in that a Motormate does nothing to support the weight of the engine. It really only takes the weight off of the power trim components, and prevents the motor from swinging.
Really it has more to do with personal preference, you are not likely to have an issue either way. Both companies say their product is better, because they want to sell it to you.

Hopefully the transom savor will do you well.
Be sure to strap it on so if it falls off, you can drag it to where you are going and not lose it.
I have found three of them in addition to the one I bought and used for about 15 years. My Dad found 5 or six of them.

My boat and 115hp are both 1998's. Its always been trailered and its never had a transom Saver. Not an issue so far.
If I had one I'd use it...but not worth the money for me.
The 2 stroke 115 only weighs about 350 lbs. (Now that I say that, it seems high)
