Looking for a solution.

I have a 6 gallon portable fuel tank for my Jon boat. It is stored in the transom compartment. I can't lift it up because I am an old wuss. It is hard even when empty to get the tank in and out. So, how to solve the problem? I am looking at extending the fuel fill neck, maybe. It is hard to fill the tank without removing it. Funnels are not practical. Good fuel transfer pumps are too expensive. Poor reports on the cheap pumps.

What about one of those long flex funnels with a hose attached to it?

I am with you on the lugging of heavy fuel tanks or any other heavy thing for that matter. I believe I would opt for fashioning a longer filler neck of some kind and make it more "geezer friendly" from the ground level when pulled alongside the gas pump.

I always just pulled the boat up to the pump and stuck the filler nozzle right in the tank. Never took it out.

You could take the tank out and bring it to a welder, have them cut a hole in it and weld in a pipe coupler, then install a hose barb, a short hose, and one of these in the deck, or wherever.

You could leave the factory cap in place as a vent.

Can you use 2 3-gallon tanks and add a mechanical valve in the fuel line? I had an offshore boat that had 2 saddle tanks with that kind of mechanical valve (Left/Right/Both) on it.

I am in the same condition, but my tank is easy to get to. I just pull up to pump and hose it in. My back and everything else are no help anymore. 73 years old, with many problems. But giving up fishing is not on my mind. I use a latter to get in and out of my boat. Oh well.

My tank is plastic. I usually fill from another gas can as my boat is not towed much so to fill from pump station. Not convenient.

I lift a 5 gallon can to fill a 6 gallon tank and spill gas everywhere. Need a better way. Tried a funnel, but too awkward for me to use.

If you can get a 5 gallon gas can higher than the tank in the boat, as in it sitting on the deck above it, these work great. Takes about 5 seconds to prime it, then gravity does the rest. It will empty a 5 gallon can in 2-3 minutes and you won't spill one drop.

Tom ... I'm surprised you haven't rigged up a electric transfer pump that you could pump gas out of a couple of 3gal gas cans into your 6gallon boat gas can .... provided, of course, that you can lift a 3gal can of gas (~20lbs).
