Default anyone here towing a jon boat with a car.

I own a 2012 Toyota Camry 2.5 and was wondering if its possible to tow a jon boat 16ft 25hp probably 1200lbs or if there's anyone out there towing a boat with a car safely, my car towing capacity is rated at 1000lb I'm a little worried about the extra 200lbs need opinions please..

Shouldn't be any problem. Years ago I towed a 19' I/O with a Dodge but it did have a big V-8 in it.

What kind of dodge? They say pulling is not the problem stopping is so I'm looking for people that have done it.

As long as it doesn't have a CVT you should be fine, as long as the ramps aren't real steep. FWD works against you on steep ramps.

A small boat is not much different than 4 big fellers in the seats and a trunk full of junk.

The transmission will be running pretty hard, make sure it has a good full synthetic and change it more often.

For a couple years towed a 1000 lb 16’ w/25 hp loaded boat with Toyota Corolla and not a issue. I live in steep hill country also. Never had a issue on steep ramps either. Use your gears.

I can't remember what model it was. It wasn't small and I don't remember any problems stopping.

I wonder what would happen if you had an accident if you're towing more than the car is rated for?

It hasn't been too many years ago when almost every boat was towed with a car. Pickups and SUVs were rare, at least in the Carolina's.

I used to tow a John boat with my Pontiac 6000 fwd but it had air ride in rear to keep the rear up,,,that’s the only issue I can foresee next to traction....
