    Default Terrova 55# bent armature

    So a very helpful deck hand yanked on a dock line as hard as they could and pulled my boat TM first into a dock at the end of the summer. The trolling motor makes quite a bit a noise and vibrates hard. If you spin the prop you can see the shaft is bent and it keeps driving the seal out.

    Friday a new armature, seals, and brush kit(2013 model, figure might as well change the brushes) will arrive. This weekend(maybe) I'll install them.
    2 questions;
    1. Anyone done this and have any useful knowledge I need?
    2. Is there any interest in me taking picks and trying to turn this into a "how to"?

    Piece of cake. Just take your time and look at the way you take it apart. Make sure you put the seals in correctly. And be careful when you unplug the wires as some of them aren't soldered too great.

    I have done several of these and they are easy to do. Couple tips I might offer is to mark the case at the mating surfaces before you take it apart, makes it easier to get it back together the same and helps line line up your bolt holes when you go back together. When putting the armature in I lock the end with the brush holder in a vise, set the armature down in the brushes and then hold the armature down with a 3/8 extension long enough that I can slide the case over it, hang on the magnets are pretty strong. Hopes this helps a little.

    Good call guys, this was stoopid easy. The rear gasket was the the only head scratcher. I have the US2. I had to open the very top head by the ipilot to put slack in the transducer cable, then remove the 3 screws on the transducer and pull it so I could work the new gasket around the cable.
    Over all I didn't see any need for pics. If anyone is thinking about doing this project, then you definitely have the skills to do it.
    All in, it takes about an hour if you don't spend too much time inspecting everything like I do.

    Oh yeah, there is a cardboard ring inside the brush assembly. This gets pulled forward and holds the brushes out. When the armature is inserted it pushes the cardboard ring back out of the way.
