    Default longtail motor

I think if this guy can do this I think I can, didnt understand a word he said but I know that the way building it I think I can do that and it wont cost very much.I already have a 5hp briggs motor, metal bed frame, some flat bar, need 7ft. of cold roll 3/8 inch rod,use a
1 3/8 top rail that for a chain link fence.weld it together and you have a longtail motor..

I think he used his fingernails to cut the threads on that rod.

Welding on that galvanized I bet was real healthy.

Mud-skipper.com has kits if you are inclined. I can't foresee someone buying the individual pieces cheaper than what you can buy the kit. Now if you scavenged the parts and built it yourself I would say it could be done for less $100. The shaft and the bearings/bushings are the critical components.

Im already trying to gather the pieces, been reading that if you put your galvanized pieces in muric acid it will remove it from the piece to allow you to weld it without the deadly fumes, but instead of using galvanized im going to use reg flat bar, and angle iron, picked up a piece of cold roll already and threaded on one end to mount the prop on it, will be trying an aluminum prop from an older trolling motor, its 6.5 inch will see what that will do.Im going to use three wooden dowels like they are doing, drill your hole in the center for your prop shaft then sand the OD to the ID of your shaft housing then drive them into your housing. Picking up a couple of love joy couplings that will connect the prop shaft to engine output shaft clamp it like he was doing and you good to go. If some things breaks Ill fix it and try some thing else. using the top rail of a fence cost 13.00 or so ID is 13/16 enough room for the prop shaft, but light enough for the 3.5 hp briggs im wanting to use.Got some angle iron from bed frame that im using for my engine frame, that should work. Wish me luck...
