Thread: What are these?

I'm wondering if those were meant to be transducer mounts - keep you from drilling through the hull.

What kind of boat ?

Them look like factory trim tabs you can bend them up or down as needed to get more or less lift for the bow. They say you can move them a 1/4'' and it can make a big difference. I've seen where people has cut them off and it didn't make any difference and I've seen where they actually help you might try bending them some to see if there is any changes and if not then you could think about cutting them off you can always weld them back on or find a different way to mount the tie downs maybe change mounting position on trailer instead of the boat.

Your guess is as good as mine. I don't think they're big enough to mount a ducer mount on though. There's 4 of them, 2 on each side of the motor.

G3 20 Bay DLX. I emailed G3 yesterday and asked the purpose of them and asked someone to call me so I could talk to them about cutting them off. No response. They may be closed this week for all I know. Between this issue, the fuse panel being put in a place that is nearly impossible to get to, and the seat base on the front deck being mounted so far forward that I had to get an offset seat pedestal to keep my feet from hitting my electronics, I am not a G3 fanboy. The boat will be great, when I get finished modifying it. It drives, handles and fishes great, but it's got some real bonehead design issues.

Thanks for the info Robbie. Since you mentioned that they may serve more purpose than I think they do. One of the 2 on the left side is bent upward. Looks like the original owner might have ridden over a stump and bent it up. If Fur Lite sits in the left rider seat the boat leans to the left a bunch. If he sits in the right seat, it rides flat. I attributed it to the cranking battery being on the left side, but I guess the bent tab could be it. Before I cut them off, I'm gonna bend that tab back flat and see if it makes a difference. I would never have thought about that if you hadn't posted. Thanks. If it makes a difference it's gonna blow my mind that a 1" aluminum tab could make that much difference, but you never know.

They’re one way for manufacturers to fix porpoising on flat bottom or mod-v aluminum hulls. Lowe puts them on some of their branded hills and those they used to build under the Triton name.

Pretty sure those are trim tabs to keep from porpsing. I know some of the flat bottoms have a problem with that the factory cure I have seen on a couple of boats done just like that. Take a hammer and bend that other one back down straight.

I don't doubt what y'all say about them being for porpoising. The boat doesn't porpoise at all under normal operation. It's hard to even make it do that by over trimming the motor. I may just move the mounting location for the boat buckle on the trailer and leave the tabs.
