Default 35 to 0 not a good thing

was out on lake Friday afternoon headed back to cabin doing 35 mph and without any alarms going off motor sounded like it had thrown a prop and we came down off plane , shut it down raised motor and to my surprise still had prop , put motor back down restarted motor without issue but when I tried to resume and throttle down got same high revving sound and no power , since I was 1/2 mile from cabin just limped it in and while doing so heat went from first line to second line in that 1/2 mile and water was coming from the pee hole . what do you think ? has anyone else experienced this ? have I torched my mercury XR2 black max ?

It sounds like you spun your hub.

Good information! I had no idea what a spun hub was. Good to know one for the memory banks.

When you first described the problem I had 2 thoughts - either a spun hub or a blown lower unit. Unless the hub is REALLY bad, it will usually allow you to idle back to the dock. That's sometimes the easiest way to tell if it is the hub vs lower unit (meaning that a blown hub will only show up when the prop is under a "load" with no ill effects showing up at idle - unlike a blown lower unit which will not even allow slow-speed usage).

Take your prop to Fin& Feather in Springfield. Dyna Props has a weekly pick up and delivery there. No need to drive to Cape Fair. Or take it to John's Hot Props in Ozark, both do excellent work.
