The seal wear ring in boat trailer axles, Dexter , tiedown. There's 4 different rings. (Just like big truck wear rings) alot of people belive that grease that is slinging on the inside is seal failure, obviously some do have grease zert on the inside and can be over greased. But u know if it keeps slinging grease on seal, rubber seal has wore a groove on spindle.

Mbsbeek I got my 4 hubs washed out today. Tonight I packed the bearings, put the seals in and got the hubs put back on just a few minutes ago and like a moron on the last hub I was too tired to get back up, walk back around the boat to get my hammer to tap the seal in so I used some channel locks that were within arms reach. I dented that dog gone seal. I bet it’s gonna sling grease and I’ll wind up having to pull that hub again soon. I wish I would have got the hammer. LOL
Always stood 4 lb. Hammer handle up next to tire, to tighting wedges and nuts, and spun tires and spacer lol

One thing that I don’t think has been pointed out in this thread is the importance of having a clean work area to pack and install the bearings. It’s best to sweep the floor and blow off the area around where you’re doing bearing work. Grit getting inside the hub or in the grease is no different than having sand paper in your hub. That will definitely cause premature bearing failure.
Brad do you hand pack or use a bearing packer?

I've used a bearing packer but don't own one. I normally put grease down in the corner of a thick ziplock bag, drop the bearing in and squeeze it around in the grease. That works well. I have hand packed them too. That takes less grease than the ziplock method but it's much slower.

after checking back with my buddie i guess there was some spots on the axel from the first time the bearings went out and they tried to clean them up it must have been bad enough it ate the secound set up. His dad now has ordered a complete new axel and new hhubs for both sides.
Make sure axle isn’t scratched or scared....

yes I would look at tightening the spindle nut to tight first
