Mercury 90HP 4 stroke power tilt
I've got a strange one for you.Trim worked great all day, got home parked the boat and fond the tilt motor running, I disconnected the battery.
Now I have reconnected batt and it's still running.
I've tried:
pulling the wires to both switches
pulled the wires to the solenoids
remove the power to the top solenoid, it stopped
connected the power to the lower solenoid, motor ran
pulled the power off the lower solenoid, motor didn't run
I think the lower solenoid is bad.
Is my thinking correct before I buy a solenoid

Having had to replace relays on my 1999 90HP Merc 2strk once before, and possibly having to do it again .... I agree with KT. And yes, it's BEST PRACTICE to replace BOTH relays at the same time.Originally Posted by KokomoTerror

Do you have a switch someplace else in the boat that controls the trim? Happened to me I have a bow switch that accidently got hit for the luv of me could not figure out what happened the down trim would stay on until I unplugged at the motor. 3 days of fishing with no trim that sucked, felt stupid once I found out what happened.

Yep, relay.
You can do an easy continuity test with a multimeter, neither relay should have continuity across the big posts, but if you're just replacing both it doesn't really matter.

Thanks, Yes, After looking the part up it is a relay. Once I removed the part I noticed a spot where if melted a little bit. I had disconnected both switches in my test routine, including disconnecting each relay.
