    Default Steering cable

Has anyone had success unfreezing a steering cable? Really don't want to spend $125 if I don't have to.

I don't think it's possible. There's usually corrosion in the liner that is preventing the movement.

I just changed my cable out, and took the opportunity to upgrade to 'no feedback' helm. Something you may want to look into if you're buying a cable anyway

Replace it. You'll spend more time trying to save that $125 than it's worth.
    I'd rather be fishing.

The problem is that I am trying to figure out if I'm going to keep or junk the boat. I only need it to work good for 2 or 3 trips then I will replace it if I decide to keep it.

I freed up a hydrostat cable on a combine, basically the same thing, by putting it in a tank of diesel for several days. I then put one end in a vise and worked it back and forth until it worked freely. A piece of PVC the right length with caps on the end would work. I then forced WD40 through it under air pressure until it cam out the other end. It worked for several years after that. If it had been $100, I may not have done it but it was many times that amount. I just like fixing things though.

Dangar Marine has a video about freeing up throttle and shift cables, steering cables are built the same way, just bigger.

If the cable has a kink or a bend in it where the liner has broken down, you probably won't be able to save it, but if it's just sticky, then maybe.

Are you sure it cable and not pivot shaft of the motor ? Disconnect the motor shaft arm , that connects to steering shaft, 9/16 wrench then see if motor swings freely left and right.
