Some of those older motors do not have one. Water comes out with the exhaust at the prop.
My Brother-in-Law purchased a 1977 25hp Evinrude and got it running but can't locate a pee hole anywhere to check and see if the impeller is working. Can anyone tell us where to look. This may be a stupid question but for life of me we can't see a pee hole or any place the cooling water comes out of the motor.

If it does not have the plastic fitting visible below the cowl, RH side (my 83 25hp had one), then water will exit through the exhaust hole about midway up the leg on the back side.

Probably no pee hole, just feel the outgoing water and consider the temperature.
Better yet, go ahead and change the water pump to be sure of what you have, change lower unit oil, check behind the prop, tune up, among others to establish a good solid base line for the old motor. Treat it to a can of seafoam as a toast on a good, long welcome to the family ride!
Does it have the 2 small square holes at the back , about 10-12" below engine cover ? If so , on hose it will just spit a little , most will come out prop
