Default Merc 200 thunderbolt rewind mount stripped.

Hi folks. So my new 1955 14ft lone star came with a '71 to '73 merc 200 (20hp). The rear rewind mount bolt hole threads are stripped. This is on the aluminum engine block. I'm planning on buying the proper size helicoil to repair it. The bolt itself appears to have tiny serrations on the threads. Could merc have used some kind of self locking or thread gripping bolt? It's one of those things that make me go.....hhhmmmm... anyhooo.. feel free to comment and or advise. Thanks.

Could be a self tapping bolt, I doubt Merc put it in there. someone along the line probably did when the threads started giving up. Sometimes a slightly longer bolt will grab enough threads to work.

Helicoil repair tomorrow. Then another test run. That motor is freakishly fast. Never owned a merc before and I'm BLOWN away by the performance. By the way, what mix ratio would you old merc guys use with our modern 2 cycle oils? Currently running about a 40 to 1 mix with quicksilver oil.

Don't own merc but a couple older 2 stroke Rudes. With new oil run 50:1 and try your best to use non ethanol with the mix if possible!

50:1 is fine for anything from the mid-60s on.
