    Default New boat

I have a chance to buy a new boat when I get back from deployment and was wondering if I could get some suggestions from the members here. I'm thinking somewhere between 16' and 21'. I mostly go with my wife and sometimes our sons go to (they are 19 and 21). Most of the time I crappie fish but also like to bass fish. I would like something that handles waves pretty good but able to get swollow also. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

17 ft would be a minimum length . 18 would be better .

Where do you like to fish? Big lakes, small lakes. Do they have motor restrictions? We have a 1675 Lund that we take to Lake of the Ozarks in the spring and fall. It works great for the two us, but we have not fished with more. But we would not take it there in during high traffic. We would take it to Mark Twain or Thomas Hill any time. Our Lund has a 60 Merc 4 stroke and I optioned to upgrade the TM to a Terrova with the iPilot Link. Get what you want now, it will be harder to do it later.
    Nope, not a hockey player!

I fish in some bigger lakes and the boat I have now is a 86 MonArk 15'. It gets pushed around by waves pretty good. Mostly I fish Lake Santa Fe, Little Santa Fe, Kingsley Lake, Orange Lake and Lake Lochloosa. I've been wanting to try St. Johns river but just don't feel my boat is big enough. Thanks for the info.

I have a 17'6" V hull w/60 hp and it's great for fishing solo, with a 2nd person and even 3 in a pinch. My normal trips are solo but 30% of my trips I have a partner.
IMO I would never buy anything any smaller. Before buying this boat I had a 14' big Jon and when it came time to upgrade I was looking at 16' boats.
Most of my friends at the time had 16' boats and virtually everyone of them wished they had something bigger and over the years they have all upgraded to something bigger.
When I retired in 2015 my wife suggested I look for a new boat but I declined because as I told her all I'd do is look for the same thing I already have. For me the boat has been perfect and I've had it for 26 years with no regrets.

So IMO I'd buy the biggest boat you are comfortable fishing in solo but has plenty of room to have a second person with you. You'll want plenty of storage options and have room for adding a 2nd battery for your TM if needed (if it's a 12vTM). Also I would have to have a TM with spot-lock and decent electronics with GPS. I don't need top of the line electronics but I don't want the bottom line either.

Good luck, I hope this helps

That looks like a fine choice to me!
