Question Battery shut off switch question

I'm wanting to put a shutoff switch on trolling motor wiring, as I've hardwired it, that connection is already made.
Does it matter, if it goes on positive or negative side? I'd planned on putting it on positive, after the breaker. Plans can be changed though.

I personally would put it on the positive. If there is an electrical fire I want to kill the power as close to the battery as possible. I was amazed at the amount of smoke that a trolling motor burning up creates. I pulled the plug and was glad when it quit smoking, circuit breaker did trip but it was very exciting for a few minutes.

I wired my shut off before the fuses right after battery , I'm bad about not turning things off pumps, radio ,etc. That way no power to anything but gas motor, make shure shut off can handle amp load of trolling motor.

Should be on the positive cable at the battery and it must be a 40-60 amp switch depending on the troller.

Thanks all! Just now got the email, about replies. I wired them in, on the positive cables.
One for the troller, one for the buss bar, that feeds most of the accessories.
Manufacturer claims it is rated for 275 amps, continuous.
