I'm back home from a 2 week vacation and plan to get to both my local dealers this week to look in person at the two motors and take some measurements. So I'm still looking for any new inputs anyone may have. I hope I can get one purchased or ordered next week at the latest.

I got some feedback on the Tohatsus from a few guys in the bass club for our local 25hp restricted lake. They all seemed to like the new Tohatsu 25 but 3-4 of them have had oil leak issues and even the dealer said it's a problem with them. I have also been told the Tohatsu 25 will not trim under load and that it is more of a tilt assist (despite being listed as power trim). If that's true about the trim then I would prefer to stick with my aftermarket Panther trim unit so that means I would need the manual tilt Tohatsu which is $4100 (Yamaha is $3500).

I do believe at this point I'm now leaning towards the Yamaha. $600 cheaper and 40+ lbs lighter and dealer has a couple in stock. Tohatsu is a 4-6 week wait I was told even though its got more displacement and a slightly better tiller configuration for my boat. It may comes down to the warranty terms though. Still can't find a copy of Yamahas warranty.

I'm shocked at the prices. A few years back my 20 Tohatsu was $800 less than 20 Yamaha.
The new lightweight 25 Yamaha is a sweet machine. Can't go wrong with it.

I appreciate all of the replies. I ended up purchasing the Yamaha 25. The cost difference and weight were the two biggest factors for going with the Yamaha.

I was a die hard Yamaha till I discovered the Tohatsu weighs 22 lbs. less than my two stroke I replaced . I been running a year with no problems . Was going Mercury . Pretty much same motor but 5 yr.warranty instead of 2/3 . I have a 40 and would buy again . Name: 20190925_141429.jpg

I have a 50 Tohatsu and love it. However the new 25 Yamaha is top line and hard to beat at $800 less and lighter too. I had a 20 Tohatsu (2018) and loved it but at that time it was much less than the 25 Yamaha or I would have bought the Yammy.

Hey guys, I only have 1.5 hours on my break-in so not much to report, however, I have a question about protecting my investment. Even though this is just a little 25hp on a 1648 jon boat it is still worth over twice what my old aluminum bass boat was. Insurance back then never really crossed my mind but now that I just spent $3700 to drop a brand new motor on my $2700 boat/trailer plus who knows how much for electronics, TM, etc I'd like to get coverage. We are currently bundled on home and auto with Allstate so I'll check them out but still open to shopping around. Not opposed to rolling it all over to another company either as I feel like our home rate is too high.

I've switched a couple of times. Nationwide is my agent and he has the best rate but he'll change if we find better deal. He switched my home and car to Travelers. Saved $100 a month. I thought a Nationwide agent could only sell Nationwide insurance but found out he can sell many brands.
