Hard to say without a crystal ball (I do have a magic 8-ball), but your motor is much bigger than mine, also you didn't bypass the controls and meter, like I did. Without knowing the exact circuit design of the module, it is just a guess, but the small heat sinks and size of the semiconductor device used suggests to me it can't handle that much current. Also because it worked for a little while and then smoked jives with this theory.
