    Default 2002 70 Johnson/Suzuki starter replacement

anyone replaced one of these, there's a cover over the starter and not sure how it comes off cant see any tabs for it to come loose.. Does it just snap in place? Figured would ask here before I mess with it and break omething, dealer wants a 100.00 to replace and if I can get over of shouldnt be a 10 minute job.

Is there any chance you could shoot a picture of it. I can’t find anything that shows a starter cover in parts break downs, just a flywheel cover with a recess that appears to be where nose of starter would go.

Will try to get a pic in the next day or by Sat for sure, not sure its a starter cover but its on back of engine covering starter.. there's a flywheel cover on top of engine that pops off.

Think I would pop that flywheel cover off and see if you can’t see how it attaches from there. Parts diagram shows one screw at front of cover holding it in place

I got starter loose after taking cover off would not come out it bottomed out on engine and was still at 90 deg, couldn't get any angle to slide out of bracket even off to the side so said screw it and its at the marine dealer now.. Worth the 95.00 for me not get xxxxxxx off and stroke out

I understand exactly how you feel. But when you pick it up talk to mechanic and find out what the trick is to get it out.

Finally got my boat back yesterday, mechanic said he told me wrong on taking starter out he ended up taking the whole throttle body off to get it out he said it was either that or take flywheel off. Ended up costing me 142.00 in labor which I consider money well spent for all the headaches it would of caused me screwing with it. Going to take old starter to a local place and have it rebuilt to have a spare.
