    Default New outboard for pontoon

Are the high thrust (big foot, etc) motors better for pontoons? I'm looking at a Suzuki. They offer the same horsepower motor in a high thrust and, I guess, a non-high thrust.

High thrust is more of work motor for heavier boats and not designed for high speed. Bigger gears turning at lower rpm allow for larger prop. Going to be easier on lower unit as far as wear and strength goes and with larger diameter prop a little better maneuverability. If for pontoon high thrust is way I’d go.

Depends on what pontoon size and what horsepower. A pontoon with enough horsepower and a properly selected propeller will not need a high thrust.

Usually the high thrust is put onto a boat that you won't be getting up on plane.........think of a barge. A pontoon with only a 25 hp would probably want high thrust.
